Avoiding The '360 Deal' Snare

Patreon , a subscription and donation platform that lets YouTubers and other creators earn money for their online content, has announced a major deviation in its monetization model. For paying subscribers, you can give out complimentary subscriptions, create an extra Supporter tier for readers who want to pay extra, offer discounts and free trials, and allow your readers to buy gift subscriptions or donate subscriptions to others.

I decided to take a shot at Patreon, a crowdfunding site that encourages artists to regain creative freedom” by raising money directly from fans. That means if you as a creator produce four videos in a month, they can choose to pay you just for two. Getting 100 patrons may not seem a lot, but it shows you how challenging it can be when most music creators have less than that.

You can delete your entire account to cease all activity from it. Obviously, this will prevent you from supporting creators in the future, so make sure you really want to do this. Patreon's approach to rewards-based crowdfunding is unique, setting it apart from Kickstarter and Indiegogo With the latter two, backers support creators with one-time pledges in exchange for rewards.

A handful of people have proposed undercutting Patreon with patreon valuation alternative services, largely because they're critical of Patreon for banning far-right users (The company has a policy against hate speech or affiliating with hate groups, and it applies to creators' behavior on all platforms.) In January, self-help guru Jordan Peterson protested one such ban by deleting his account — where he once made over $80,000 monthly — and promising to help build a competing crowdfunding site.

Creators using this model will not be able to charge patrons for individual posts. What patreon does is allow fans- patrons- to donate a certain amount of money at set intervals. In case you post audio content, Patreon creates a private feed for each patron who pledges to you.
